 PARADOX OF THE MIND
The mind controls everything, but what controls the mind?
In martial art training  -for fighting, competition, or demonstration-  trainers often order to trainees to focus on the mind. “Keep your mind quiet and focused”. But the problem for trainees, and possibly for trainers as well, is how to know Where the mind is and on What to keep it focused.
Is the mind located somewhere inside the brain or is it something existing beyond our physical body? Mind, thought, spirit, are all independent or are they rather different aspects of one ultimate invisible reality?
It has been accepted that the mind controls our action and reaction to the outside world. If so, here is a paradox of the mind: If the mind controls and directs us in our actions, we are subject of the mind. Being subject of our mind we cannot order it to be focused on anything.
Because of this paradox, perhaps it would be better not to tell the trainees to follow their mind but teach them some techniques that could train them to straighten their mind, their thought, and their spirit as part of their routine daily training.
