    No 01 - STANDING Stance:

 Stand up and be strong

The Standing Stance symbolizes the importance of having a firm foundation in all areas of life. To stand strong means to be resilient in the face of challenges, grounded in one's beliefs, and confident in one's abilities. This stance represents the idea of maintaining inner strength and mental clarity, allowing you to face adversity with determination. When your body is properly aligned and stable, you are more capable of responding to an opponent or challenge effectively. Always stand firm in your convictions and maintain your integrity.

6 - ENCOUNTERS ON THE MOUNTAIN PATH

The document continues.

Dinh Bao-Dan was born in 1566, year of the Tiger, in the village Cam-Giang, in the Hai-Duong province. He was a very smart child, grasping knowledge quickly at school and excellent in the practice of martial arts. After he had gained some maturity, at the age of fourteen, his father decided to offer him his own horse. From their village, in the vicinity of the capital Thang-Long, they went to the far mountainous region of Lao-Cai where there were a lot of good horses for warfare. On the way back, riding Sao-Bang ‘Shooting Star’, his marvellous white horse, the boy got lost in the forest, not far from Cam-Duong, and he had to fight against two bandits who viciously attacked him. He won the fight, killing one man and hurting the other badly. During that unexpected fight, he realized how exceptionally good his horse was. A very strong bond started to be forged between Bao-Dan and Sao-Bang. When he turned fifteen, he went to the capital to improve his martial techniques under the supervision of Master Dinh-Kha and to study literature with Master Phung Khac-Thi. He was an outstanding student, and at the age of eighteen he enrolled in the secret Society Thuan-Thien. One year later, he became a member of the elite class of the Society. As the other elites of this organization, he received a very deep formation in martial arts and fighting, just as in other techniques and strategies for warfare and espionage. The Thuan-Thien Society had a hidden centre for teaching and training in the forest, between Yen-Bai and Lao-Cai. Its members called it 'To Duong', their Alma Mater. Bao-Dan became an instructor in that school. After successfully accomplishing several missions, was promoted to the position of chief of special operations in the capital.

After fighting and killing Quy-Su 'the demon', he continued to walk for several hours on the mountain path. He missed the company of his horse Sao-Bang - he had to leave him in his village in order to be discreet during the mission toward his Alma Mater. Chim-Linh, his scout bird soaring around, came back toward him whistling in alert and perched on the branch of a pine tree. Quickly, Bao-Dan went into hiding behind a big rock, close to the path. Two men were approaching in single file. The taller of the two, looking like a crane, was walking at the rear and the other one, looking like a leopard, was leading at the front. Bao-Dan let them continue for about ten meters and then threw a stone on the path behind them. In the twinkling of an eye, both drew their swords: the smaller was in front guard while the other one in rear-guard position. Quickly their eyes scanned the surroundings.

POST 704  (continued)

- Hey! Young man, did you see the sign there? Quy-Su said, standing upright on the path.

- Yes, I did. The young man replied quietly.

- What’s your name?

- My name is Bao-Dan. Dinh Bao-Dan, sir.

- So, make me a hundred bows or challenge me in combat.

- Sir, Bao-Dan said continuing to advance, I do not know who you are, so I can only give you one bow as required by social convention, maybe two bows for telling me about your rules and perhaps three bows, because I am a Buddhist. And that’s all. You don’t want to receive four bows, do you? Four bows are for a dead man.

- Don’t talk so much! Fight!

- Sir, if I do accept a fight, when does it begin?

- Right now!

- But first, I want to show you something…

While saying that, the young Bao-Dan took something out of his pocket and approached Quy-Su tending his hand forward and looking up to the sky.

Puzzled, Quy-Su looked at the right hand of Bao-Dan, and when the hand opened there was something rising to the sky. Immediately, Quy-Su drew out his long sword, when he heard the terrible sound of a thundering ‘thet’ kiai. Too late! The head of Quy-Su fell onto the ground, cut in a flash by the sword of Bao-Dan, drawn from its scabbard by his left hand. Quietly, Bao-Dan wiped his sword before putting it back in its scabbard. From the sky, a bird sang a small song and made two circles above his head, then landed on the right shoulder of his master. The name of the bird was Chim-Linh. Bao-Dan continued along the road going deep into the mountain to pursue his own mission. On his path, the chance to meet a tiger was higher than that of meeting with another bandit.

As master Hac-Dao-Su received the news of the death of his disciple Quy-Su, he swiftly sent to Nui-Hu another disciple, Quy-Huynh. Upon arriving, Quy-Huynh decided to change strategy. But it took him two years to move his headquarters down to a place near the Lake of the Sword. The base at Nui-Hu was kept as a secret stopover for the Dark Army, under a horse-farm called Trai-Ngua.

At the place where Quy-Su died, a small shrine to the cult of his memory was erected and it still exists today.
