The Viaduct of Milhau

The Viaduct of Milhau

A new bridge brings people
Closer to each other
If we don’t cross the bridge
We will never feel
The soul of the river below
We will be forever
The one who did not dare
To cross the bridge
This tallest bridge
Or any other in life.

       Charles Phan-Hoang (Oct. 2005)

Le Viaduc de Milhau
Arrived at this place one nice afternoon 2005 I was so impressed that I stayed very long moment to admire the giant bridge and the beauty of the environment. Then I performed some favourite exercises before crossing the bridge.
The Milhau Bridge  ( le Viaduc de Milhau) is the tallest bridge in the world (until 2013) with one mast's summit at 343 metres above the base of the structure, so it is higher than the Eiffel Tower (324m). This giant viaduct is a cable-stayed bridge that spans the gorge valley of the River Tarn near Milhau in southern France. It was built over three years, formally inaugurated on 14 December 2004. The bridge has been consistently ranked as one of the great engineering achievements of all time. In a Franco-British partnership it was designed by the English architect Sir Norman Foster and French structural engineer Dr Michel Virlogeux. The cost of construction was approximately  394 million.
