THE FOUNTAIN OF TIRANO

As the sun descended upon the horizon, I found myself in the charming city of Tirano. The narrow streets that traversed through the city seemed to lead me into an enchanting world of the past. After reaching my destination for the night, the bed-and-breakfast Casa-Mia located on Arcari Street, I was astonished to find an old fountain situated nearby in a park next to a library.

The timeless fountain seemed to embody the pulse of the city, meticulously measuring every moment as it has done for centuries. Pondering upon the nature of time, I realized that while a clock serves to keep track of time, the fountain in Tirano revealed to me the fluidity of time itself. It embodied the vibrant essence of each passing droplet and the story of this mysterious city from its creation, and its rich historical time with both glorious and painful moments.

In my philosophical musings, I found the key difference between a clock and a fountain to be like a book and a living teacher. The former contains knowledge, while the latter facilitates comprehension of it. While good books are important, it is the presence of knowledgeable teachers that truly shape and mould the destiny of our society. Thus, let us deeply consider the significance that we accord to our current teachers, as they hold the key to our future.

As the city awakened, the market burst into renewed energy and opened its gates at 10:00am. Amidst the fervent activity, the Berlina Express, a magnificent red train, majestically entered the station, ready to embark on its journey through the high mountains. Departing from Tirano in Italy, it ventured towards the Swiss gem of St-Moritz. I couldn't say when I would travel to Tirano again, but one thing was certain: I would never find the city quite as enchanting as it had been that evening. (Charles Phan Hoang, Post 660 June 2024)
