POST 702 Quy-Su was very cruel, but
intelligent enough not to attack local people. He set up a legal way to
satisfy his obscure desires, filled with superstition. He put a large sign at
the side of the path that said that travelers passing by, who were swordsmen,
had the choice to submit themselves to his protection by accepting him as
their master, or challenges him in a fatal combat. Of course, no respectable
swordsman would accept the authority imposed on him by any unknown person
without fierce combat. That way the fight was legal and the winner would not
be considered a criminal by the law. So far, Quy-Su had won all fights, but
it was not because he was very strong and could not find a stronger
swordsman. He was winning thanks to a dishonest secret received from his own
master. He needed to provoke his opponents into combat and achieve victories
all the time to accomplish his obscure desire: "the collection of one
hundred heads and the capture of one hundred swords". Five years after
the day he had arrived in Nui-Hu, he had cut ninety-nine heads and amassed
ninety-nine swords. Impatiently, he was waiting for his last victim to show
up on this lugubrious passage.
