A GREAT SUMMER VO HA, The Summer 2-
HOA SEN – The Lotus Flower Symbol of Purity and Inner Beauty In this second movement of the VO
HA form, we embody the image and spirit of the lotus flower — HOA
SEN, a timeless symbol of purity, beauty, and resilience. The lotus is a remarkable flower.
It grows from the depths of muddy waters, yet rises above the surface to
bloom in the sunlight — untouched, clean, and serene. It reminds us that no
matter our surroundings, no matter the chaos or hardship we may face, we can
still rise with dignity, clarity, and grace. This form encourages us to carry
the essence of the lotus into every part of our lives. Purity here
does not mean perfection — it means being true, clear, and kind in our
thoughts, actions, and intentions. It means letting go of negativity and
cultivating inner beauty that naturally expresses itself in how we speak,
move, work, and care for both ourselves and others. HOA SEN invites us to:

You speak Vietnamese fluently. Are you of Vietnamese origins?" Clara: "No. I am of Japanese origins. I
learned Vietnamese and other Asian languages while I was in the army for the
needs of my missions. My master of martial arts, however, originates from
Vietnam." Master Dinh-Mai: "Really, your master is a
Vietnamese! What's his name?" Clara: "His name is Master Steve Hogan.
He's been living in North America for a long time. It is through him that I
was put in contact with Thu-Lan. I am here to do some historical research.
I'm particularly interested in a kiem-si who lived under the Le
dynasty." Master Dinh-Mai: "You are interested in the
kiem-si, those courageous fighters who mastered the art of the Vietnamese
sword so well. Do you practice the art of the sword yourself?" Clara: "Yes master. Although I am of
Japanese origins, I practice Viet-Kiem, as taught by my master." As she said this, her eyes fell on a sword
resting on a support. Master Dinh-Mai, following Clara's gaze, said:
"The sword you're looking at is a sword from the era of the Le dynasty." Clara: "Yes, I noticed it because it has a
different shape than the newer swords. It is certainly a sword like this that
Dinh Bao-Dan had when he beheaded Quy-Su, as described in the old document of
which my master gave me a copy." Master Dinh-Mai, unable to hide his surprise:
"You know the story of Bao-Dan from old documents, so you know how to
read Chu-Nom!" Clara, modestly: "Yes Master. Thanks to my
knowledge of Japanese Kanji, I can read Vietnamese Han-Viet. From that, I
also learned Chu-Nom - that knowledge is very useful to read ancient
Vietnamese documents." Master Dinh-Mai had a flash of wonder in his
eyes, because nowadays it was rare to find someone who could read ancient
documents written in Chu-Nom. (to
