REMIC RAPIDS PARK Many years
ago, on a beautiful autumn day, I discovered Remic Rapids Park, located
about 4 kilometers from Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Since then, I have
revisited this unique place almost every year, always finding great joy in
its tranquil atmosphere and unusual rock sculptures. The park is home to
numerous balanced rock sculptures, which transform the shoreline of the
Ottawa River into a stunning natural gallery. Remic Rapids is particularly
renowned for the work of John
Ceprano, an artist who began creating these sculptures in the
early 1980s. Ceprano uses only natural stones found along the riverbank,
carefully balancing them into intricate, gravity-defying formations without
the use of adhesives or supports. His work beautifully blends art and nature,
evoking a sense of harmony, balance, and impermanence. While sitting in quiet
meditation at this serene place, I once reflected on how the balanced rock
sculptures at Remic Rapids symbolize the interplay between human creativity
