POST 730 15 – AN UNEXPECTED DEPARTURE The next morning, Clara got up at 6:30
as usual. From the window of her room on the sixth floor of the hotel, she
could see the Hoan-Kiem lake nearby. She decided to do her daily exercise,
Bai Di Xa, on the lakeside, so she left the hotel and started jogging toward
Le-Thai-To Street, which runs along the lake. A few minutes after she left, Lam-Tieu
entered the hotel, wearing a hat with a brim pulled down over his eyes.
Avoiding the elevator he went up to the sixth floor using the service stairs.
At the door to the hallway on the sixth floor, he listened carefully. Hearing
no sign of activity, he opened the door and walked toward Clara’s room. He
took a master key from his pocket and opened the room. A short moment later,
he left carrying Clara’s laptop under his right arm. A small smile of
satisfaction appeared on his lips because everything had happened according
to his plan. Exiting through the door to the
service stairs, he started to go down. Suddenly, he was blinded by a dazzling
flash. A tall, slim man was standing in front of him. He felt like paralyzed,
as if the energy recovered from the fight two days ago instantaneously
vanished, when he recognized the man who had attacked him in his shop. Before
he could recollect his thoughts, the computer was seized by the tall man and
he found his wrists handcuffed to the handrail. Searching the pockets of Lam-Tieu, the
tall man took the master key and ordered with a low and threatening voice:
“Keep quiet. You were caught stealing with evidence. I have your picture.” The tall man, Nguyen-Luc, who had been
tailing Lam-Tieu, went into Clara’s room and put the computer back on the
table. He gently closed the door and returned to Lam-Tieu who looked
downcast. He removed the handcuffs and, in a flash, gripped Lam-Tieu’s wrists
in his hands of steel. Nguyen-Luc: "The lesson that you
received two days ago was not enough. Do you want me to send you to sleep for
good this time? Answer my questions. Why did you steal that computer?" Lam-Tieu: "I was looking for
information." Nguyen Luc: "What
information?" Lam-Tieu: "It's not for me, it is
for my boss." Nguyen-Luc tightened his hold:
"Don’t try to dupe me, answer my question. What information?" Lam-Tieu, grimacing with pain:
"Information on the Sacred Seal and an old map of the area of
Nui-Hu." Nguyen-Luc: "What do you want to
do with it?" Lam-Tieu: "I don’t know anything
more. I am just following orders from my boss" Nguyen-Luc: "Who is your
boss?" Lam-Tieu remained silent. Nguyen Luc began to twist his arm:
"Talk!" Lam-Tieu: "If I say it, I will be
a dead man." Nguyen-Luc, in a very threatening
voice: "So you choose to die right away?" Lam-Tieu was deathly pale and beads of
sweat began to form on his forehead. He thought quickly and suddenly a plan
started forming in his mind. He began to speak, the flow of words more
abundant: "I'm tired of this. All of this happened because of my wife. I
will tell you what I know so you let me go."
