THE ISLAND OF
RHODES (1400 km2)
About Rhodes,
probably many of us still remember the history of the Order of the Knights
of Saint John of Jerusalem. After the fall of the Kingdom of Jerusalem in 1291, the Order
sought refuge in the Kingdom of Cyprus, then later, in need of a
permanent base, they attacked the island of Rhodes
which surrendered to the knights in 1309 after over two years of campaigning.
Finally the Order came to build their place in Malta.
In 1912 the island of Rhodes became part of
Italy, then since 1947 this attractive island belongs to Greece. This year
2015, a small team of Paola Binh-Lam (Vietchidao) has explored Rhodes and
Karpathos and we have received beautiful pictures from their journey (posted
below).
