THE STRUCTURE
OF OUR FORMS QUYEN

(extracted from Vietchi Learning Document July 2016)

Today I want to deliver to you something almost invisible, almost secret, hidden in the structure of our Quyen. That is the hidden rhythm and the number.
Let me first remind you some knowledge about numbers. We have talked about number theory in VietChi, you know the number 1 is unity, number 3 describes earth and humanity, number 5…  number 4 the four directions, number 5 the five elements, number 6, six marvellous movements, etc.
Then we have number 9, is the highest number with one digit because 10 is not the highest, 10 is 1+0, so 9 is the highest and you often count up to 9 in our exercises. Then you have 12, 3x4, four directions, and 18 - you find the number 18 in many of our quyen. Then you have 3x8 is 24, and 12x9 is 108.
So, in VietChi, the number theory guides you to better understand the structure of a quyen, and you could discover why our quyen, most of our quyen are successful, because there are messages, there is rhythm, there are symbols, there is the number theory behind and there are applications, technical applications and behaviour applications, social applications, etc.

So now, back to the structure of our quyen. You can find, usually, our quyen have 12 movements, or 18 movements, or 24 movements, or 54 movements, or 108 - do you see that? LUC DIEU have 6 movements, BAT DIEU have 8 movements, THAP BAT DIEU 18 movements, BAT NHA 108 movements.

What do these numbers do inside our quyen? If you study carefully the structure of our quyen through its numbers, you will better find the meaning, the organisation of the quyen. On most of these quyen you do find an introduction, then the development (the main issue), and then the conclusion. So like a book or a text, you will often find  this structure in our Quyen.

POST 118 JAPAN for AUG. 15 2015- MISSING 113,114,115,116,117,119

  PAST POST 118
  JAPAN

BLOG 27 JULY 2013

This week I started reading TAIKO, AN EPIC NOVEL OF WAR AND GLORY IN FEUDAL JAPAN, by Eiji Yoshikawa (Translated by William Scott Wilson, published by Kodansha USA.  ISBN: 978-156836-428-5). This is a very captive book and I want to share with you the first page I read as follows, along with a number of pictures taken with my pocket camera Sony during my several travels in Japan:

"NOTE TO THE READER

Toward the middle of the sixteenth century, as the Ashikaga crumbled, Japan came to resemble one huge battlefield.  Rival warlords vied for dominance, but from among them three great figures emerged, like meteors streaking against the night sky.  These three men, alike in their passion to control and unify Japan, were strikingly different in personality: Nobunaga, rash decisive, brutal; Hideyoshi, unassuming, subtle, complex; Ieyasu, calm, patient, calculating.  Their divergent philosophies have long been recalled by the Japanese in a verse known to every schoolchild:

What if the bird will not sing?

-        Nobunaga answers "Kill it!"

-        Hideyoshi answers "Make it want to sing."

-        Ieyasu answers "Wait."

This book, Taiko (the title by which Hideyoshi is still known in Japan), is the story of the man who made the bird want to sing."

FIVE METHODS OF BREATHING.

There are five basic methods of breathing any Black Belt should know, which are:

1.Tho-Phoi, the method of  Lung-Breathing (can be written as Thophoi, Lung-breathing, also Lungs-breathing). This method focuses on the natural breathing of the lungs with deep and powerful respiration.

2.Tho-Bung, the method of Abdomen-Breathing  or Belly-Breathing (can be written as Thobung , Belly-breathing). This method employs movements of the abdomen to help in expanding and compressing the lungs.

3.Tho-Phoi-Bung, the method of  Lung-Abdomen-Breathing  or Lung-Belly-Breathing (can be written as Thophoibung, Lung-belly-breathing).  This method employs movements of the ribcage combined with those of the abdomen to help in expanding and compressing the lungs.

4.Tho-Nguc, the method of Chest-Breathing  (can be written as Thonguc, Chest-belly-breathing).

This method employs movements of the chest to help in expanding and compressing the lungs.

THE ART OF BALANCED ROCKS
At the Remic Rapids hundreds of balanced, natural rock sculptures surprise the visitors. This morning (24 August 2013) I have taken a series of pictures to share with you.
These art works are entirely made by hand and the rocks are heavily fossilized over million years at this place. The forms, the textures and the colors are unique to this region. John Felice Ceprano began, in 1986, creating balanced rock sculptures at this site and the project continues until the beginning of winter, when the forces of nature cause the sculptures to collapse.  And every year the sculptor returns to  work. Very touched by such a way of creating art of John Felice Ceprano, I wrote down a few lines as follows to honour the sculptor :
THE ART OF BALANCED ROCKS
Stones upon stones
Then upon stones, stones and stone
Great art shows unstable art
Narrow mind believes in eternal power
The seabird knows where my bicycle is
I don’t know where the seabird is…

Text: THE DUEL

THE DUEL:

PASSION AND STUPIDITY

In ancient time, in Europe, especially in France, as I learned, the practice of DUEL was the sign for Honor, Virility and Self-Respect.  That is in theory.  In practice, when later the duel was forbidden under heavy sanction that could be up to the death sentence, why a number of men, including famous people like René Descartes or Évariste Galois ( 1811 –  1832)  who were supposedly very intelligent and logic, continued to be engaged in this practice? The famous young mathematician Galois lost his life in a nonsense duel against an obscure guy, one sad morning in a field near Paris. Descartes happily survived a duel against a husband who legitimately defended   his beautiful wife.  There are many other people we can mention on the list, so why did them do what they did?  I thought the answer could be this: any kind of game always creates a kind of Passion and from Passion to Stupidity there is only one step to jump on.      VIET-KHI-PHAP

                                                                                       be healthy, be helpful

WHAT IS VIET-KHI-PHAP.

VIET-KHI-PHAP is one discipline among the eight disciplines of the VIET-CHI System.

VIET-KHI-PHAP is a discipline specialized on the practice of breathing methods and the development of inner energy, aiming at training the physical strength of the body and the consciousness for a state of perfect insight and tranquility.

VIET-KHI-PHAP is a way of Inner Energy. It is an "inward" discipline that employs 5 methods of breathing to the 18 powerful breathing techniques and to the 4 forms of seasonal movements.

MEANING OF THE TERM VIET-KHI-PHAP

Viet. To surpass, to excel, to overcome. Vietnamese people.

Khi.  Air, ether, inner energy, vitality,  high potential power.

Phap. Method, way, principle.

Since the name of this discipline is a proper and compound name it is best to hyphenate it as in VIET-KHI-PHAP or Viet-khi-phap.  However, in English as well as in other western languages it is acceptable to write it in one word as Vietkhiphap.

The compound word Viet-khi-phap has been created from three separate Vietnamese words by Grand Master Phan Hoang for naming the modernized discipline he founded decades ago in harmony with VIETVODAO INTERNATIONAL (1972) and VIETTAICHI (1990). This Vietnamese discipline is not a version of any style of Chi-Kung, Qi-Gong, Khi-Cong, Tai-Ji-Quan, Tai-Chi.

Following is an exercise called  THO-DOAN-PHIEN (cutting sadness).
The benefit of practicing this exercise has multiple aspects, especially: Improving dynamism, optimism, mental quality of life, self-confidence; and cutting way to sadness.

POST 127 05OCT2013- RIBS FESTIVAL OTTAWA-  Phan Hoang's thoughts

BLOG 05 OCTOBER

(through 13 October 2013)

OTTAWA RIBTOBERFEST

For four days, until tomorrow Sunday 6th, RIBTOBERFEST is changing the ambiance of Ottawa city center, especially at Spark Street. Eating, Joy, and Happiness! What’s a wonderful moment to be in that street at the right time. I am pleased to share with you some pictures taken on the first day of this ribs festival! Hope that through these pictures you will see many colourful stands, feel the smells and grasp the noises… all these ordinary things that make OTTAWA RIBS FESTIVAL extraordinary.

When I was a child, one day at my school our respected teacher taught us:

"We eat to live, we don’t live to eat".

Today, I am still very respectful to the memory of my then teacher, but it does not forbid me to think differently:

"Animals eat to live, human beings live, think and enjoy eating."(Phan Hoang takes full responsibility for saying this).

Now, it is 8:56 AM Saturday, I am going to say to you:
HAVE A NICE DAY, and DO NOT CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU CANNOT CHANGE, the world will not be falling apart J .
Could I now have your permission to close my computer and ride my bicycle to Spark Street to enjoy eating a delicious Half-Rack of Ribs for 10 dollars, then go along the Ottawa Rive admiring the beauty of Mother Nature  in Autumn and do some favourite exercises such as BAI DI XA and HA-THU.
All the best.
Phan Hoang
